FC Edmonton News Release

CASA GRANDE, Arizona ‚¬" FC Edmonton players and coaches spent a well-deserved day off checking out the sites in and around Casa Grande and Phoenix. Some of the boys took in a Phoenix Suns NBA game, some did a little shopping and others golfed and relaxed by the pool, but all of them came back Monday ready to put in a hard training session.

Everyone including the club ‚¬â„¢s latest signing, American midfielder Shawn Chin. Chin, a recent graduate of the University of South Florida and US U20 player, said he ‚¬â„¢s thrilled to have signed his first ever professional contract and can ‚¬â„¢t wait to see his new home in the Great White North.

‚¬Å“This is a dream come true, ‚¬Â he said. ‚¬Å“Every kid grows up wanting to be a professional soccer player so it feels great. I ‚¬â„¢m excited to get up to Edmonton, it ‚¬â„¢s going to be a lot different than Florida so I ‚¬â„¢m excited to see what I can learn and what I can bring to the team. ‚¬Â

Chin impressed the coaches during training sessions in Arizona and exhibition games against FC Dallas and the University of New Mexico Lobos and hopes that by signing with FC Edmonton, he ‚¬â„¢ll be able to get back into the mix when it comes to his national team.

In 2008 he was invited to join the US U20 team for a domestic camp. He played a few friendlies against teams like Guatemala and Honduras and hopes to get back into the fold soon.

‚¬Å“Of course they keep an eye on you but you just have to keep working hard to get called back, ‚¬Â he said. ‚¬Å“My goal is to make the Olympic squad so hopefully I can have a great season in Edmonton and get back there. ‚¬Â

Chin was the high school leading scorer and Miami Player of the Year in 2007. He earned a full ride to Boston College based on his performance and played there for two years. We was named to the ACC All-Rookie team his first season and then transferred to USF to play his last two seasons of college soccer.

FC Edmonton ‚¬â„¢s training camp continues in Casa Grande, Arizona this week. They ‚¬â„¢ll play two more games before returning home to Edmonton on March 20.
