FC Edmonton News Release
EDMONTON, AB - FC Edmonton has signed Newcastle, England-native Tomi Ameobi to a North American Soccer League (NASL) contract after a two-week trial with the Club.
"I think Tomi is an excellent signing and he comes with a very good pedigree and lots of experience," said FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller. "He understands the game and I am very happy that our club can attract a player with his caliber and quality. Tomi seems to be enjoying himself and is a very welcome addition to the squad."
The middle of two other soccer-playing brothers, Shola and Sammy Ameobi, Tomi has promising soccer genes in his family. Starting his professional career with Leeds United, Ameobi has played in the United Kingdom and Iceland. Most recently, he played in Finland with VPS, where he found himself the opponent of two current Eddies, Frank Jonke and Mike Banner.
Ameobi fills FC Edmonton's final international roster spot and wraps up the club's search for players for the 2014 season.
