EDMONTON, AB - FC Edmonton has retained defender Jeannot Esua (zhuh-NO EH-soo-ah) for the 2021 season, the club announced today.

Esua signed a two-year agreement with the Eddies before the start of the 2020 season, and the 2021 season will be the third on the club's roster for the 24-year-old. Playing in the Canadian Premier League (CPL), Esua has made a total of 30 appearances, clocked 2597 minutes, and recorded two assists. In 2019, Esua was awarded FC Edmonton Player of the Year.

"We are excited to welcome Jeannot back for another season with FC Edmonton," said Alan Koch, Head Coach. "He has proven himself to be an elite level full back in the league, and we are excited to integrate him into the new team this coming season. His athleticism and technical ability will make him an important piece of our team. I look forward to seeing how far we can take him in his career."

Raised in Bonadikombo in the seaside municipality of Limbé in the west-African nation of Cameroon, the 5'8, 150-pound defender made his professional debut in 2017 with Orange County SC of the United Soccer League (USL). During his time with that club, he made 12 appearances and scored one goal.

Following his stint in California, Esua spent the 2018 season with the Rainbow Bamenda FC Academy in Cameroon, which had also been his youth club.

"I am very excited to return for the 2021 season," said Esua. "As we all know, 2020 was a difficult season for the club, but I am pretty sure we have all moved passed that and are looking forward to the new season. FC Edmonton is a club with great history, and hopefully the team, together with the fans, can contribute more to that history come 2021."

Deposits on season Memberships for the 2021 CPL season are currently available for $20.21. Fans are encouraged to visit https://fcedmonton.canpl.ca/ or call 780-700-2600 for more information.
