January 11, 2021 - Canadian Premier League (CPL)
FC Edmonton News Release
EDMONTON, AB - FC Edmonton has re-signed goalkeeper Connor James to a contract for the 2021 season, the club announced today.
This will be the third season with FC Edmonton for the 24-year-old, having signed his first contract with the club in 2019. He was nominated for the Canadian Premier League (CPL) Goalkeeper of the year after the CPL's inaugural season in 2019. In 2020, James started six of the club's seven matches during the CPL's Island Games. In his time in the CPL, James has made 28 total appearances, and played a total of 2520 minutes.
"We are looking forward to welcoming Connor back for his third season with the club," said Alan Koch, Head Coach. "He has had good experiences so far in the CPL, and we look forward to taking him to an even higher level this year. His mentality, professionalism, and attitude are major positive influencers on creating the right training environment we need to have for team success."
James (6'1", 175 pounds) is no stranger to the soccer scene in Edmonton. From 2014-2019, he attended the University of Alberta and played for the Golden Bears, where he would make 67 appearances. James and the Bears won a U SPORTS National Championship in 2016, defeating UQAM 1-0 in the final, with James being named to the tournament all-star team. James was also a U SPORTS First Team All-Canadian in 2018.
"FC Edmonton has played a significant role in my life for many years and I'm extremely excited to be continuing my journey with the club," said James. "Alan has a great vision for the future of the club, with strong values and clear objectives. I am happy to play a part in the future." James continued, "I am looking forward to working with the coaching staff to improve myself and working with the rest of the players to improve the team. Collectively, we are determined to bring success to the club."
In November 2018, James was selected in the first round of the CPL U SPORTS Draft, the seventh overall pick by FC Edmonton, and officially signed with the club in January. Later in May, James made his professional debut against Valour FC in the club's inaugural CPL match. He made a total of 22 league appearances in the 2019 season and re- signed with FC Edmonton for a second season in November of that year.
