FC Edmonton News Release

EDMONTON, AB - FC Edmonton has re-signed defender Mele Temguia (MEL-ay tem-GWEE-uh) to a contract for the 2021 season, the club announced today.

The 2021 season will be the third on the club's roster for the 25-year-old. Playing in the Canadian Premier League (CPL), Temguia has made a total of 34 appearances, clocked 3060 minutes, and scored three goals.

"I have been fortunate to work with Mele earlier in his career and have been impressed with his profession since he joined FC Edmonton," said Alan Koch, Head Coach. "He continues to progress on the pitch and this season will be a big part of him taking the next step in his career. He is a modern-day centre back and I look forward to him playing a significant role on our new team."

Temguia (6'2" and 185 pounds) was born in Germany and moved to Montreal as a child. He played his youth football with Sherbrooke-based club Verts de Sherbrooke until 2011, when he joined the Major League Soccer (MLS) club Montreal Impact's academy. After spending four years in the Impact's system, Temguia joined the club's new reserve side, FC Montreal in the United Soccer League (USL), where he played for two seasons. In March 2017, the USL's FC Cincinnati announced that they had signed Temguia for the 2017 season. Following the end of that season, the club announced that his contract had expired and would not be renewed.

In April of 2018 Temguia signed with Australian NPL Victoria side Hume City FC. He made 11 appearances and scored one goal before leaving Hume mid-season. In June of that year, Temguia signed with NPL Northern New South Wales side Valentine Phoenix FC where he made nine appearances for the club that season.

In February of 2019 Temguia signed with FC Edmonton for the CPL's inaugural season. During his debut in the club's first match of the season on May 4, he scored the club's first-ever CPL-era goal in a 2-1 win over Valour FC. He made 27 league appearances that season, scoring two goals, and he also made two appearances in the Canadian Championship that year. In November, Temguia re-signed with Edmonton for the 2020 season.
