FC Edmonton News Release

EDMONTON, AB - FC Edmonton has re-signed defender Amer Didic (ah-MEER DID-itch) to a contract for the 2021 season, the club announced today.

This will be the 26-year-old's third season with FC Edmonton, having signed his first contract with the club in 2019. His first season in the Canadian Premier League (CPL) in 2019 saw him make 20 appearances in league matches and one in the Canadian Championship tournament. In the 2020 CPL season's Island Games, he was only able to make three appearances and clocked 241 minutes, after having sustained an ankle injury in the first match of the event.

"Amer is a modern-day centre back with all the tools to be at the top of the game in this country," said Alan Koch, Head Coach. "He missed a lot of the abridged 2020 season through injury, but we look forward to working with him to get him back on the pitch and to elevate his play to even higher levels.

We expect him to be a big part of improving our defensive fortunes as a club this coming season."

Didic signed a professional contract with FC Edmonton in April of 2019, and earned a call into the Canadian Men's National Team (CanMNT) in October of that year. He was part of the CanMNT's historic 2-0 victory against the United States Men's National Team at BMO Field in a CONCACAF Nations League Group A match. During that time with the CanMNT his steady play earned him additional call-ups with the side in both November 2019 and January 2020. Didic then became the first CPL player to both feature and score for the CanMNT when he started and contributed a second-half goal in a 4-1 victory against Barbados in an International Friendly match played in California in January of last year.

Between the 2019 and 2020 CPL seasons, Didic was invited to a trial with MLS's Vancouver Whitecaps and attended their pre-season camp. He made one appearance and clocked 51 minutes during their pre- season tournament, but eventually returned to Edmonton and signed on play for the Eddies for the 2020 season.

The 6'4" 195-pound centre back joined USL side San Antonio FC in December of 2018 to play for the club in the 2019 season. Didic eventually made just two appearances for 180 minutes during his stint in San Antonio, and after that one season he and the club mutually agreed to part ways.

Didic was born in Bosnia, but his family immigrated to Surrey, BC when he was only one year old and eventually settled in Edmonton. Didic is a product of the FC Edmonton Academy, and as a result of his time there was offered a scholarship to play at Baker University in Kansas City, Missouri in the United States.

After making an impression during his collegiate career, including being named the Heart of America Conference's MVP in 2016, Swope Park Rangers (Rangers) of the United Soccer League (USL) signed him to his first professional contract. By the end of the first year with that club, he was a USL all-star and had earned call-ups to play for the Rangers' Major League Soccer (MLS) affiliate, Sporting KC in the CONCACAF Champions League. Didic played for Rangers for three seasons, and also made appearances for Sporting KC in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup during this time there.

Deposits on season Memberships for the 2021 CPL season are currently available for $20.21. Fans are encouraged to visit https://fcedmonton.canpl.ca/ or call 780-700-2600 for more information.
