Over the past month, Canada was reminded of the tragedy of residential schools when the remains of children were found at several residential school sites throughout the country. Residential schools remain a dark and sad chapter in Canada's history and the Canadian Premier League joins with Indigenous communities across this nation in mourning alongside Canadians who continue to learn about the violence that took place in the past and into today.

FC Edmonton 2021 Summary

FC Edmonton looks forward to a third season in the Canadian Premier League after a 8th place finish in the 2020 Island Games (Charlottetown,PEI) bubble last August. The Eddies have a new coach- Alan Koch. The South African-born Koch, who went to school at Simon Fraser University, with a head-coaching journey that has taken him to SFU and U.S schools, then go pro in Cincinnati, and also working with Vancouver Whitecaps, is replacing Jeff Paulus.

The 2021 season is led by stalwart returnees like Amer Didic and Easton Ongaro, as well as some key newcomers like Shamit Shome and Fraser Aird. The team has plenty of talent and will be hoping to finally break into the upper echelon of CPL contenders. Coach Koch's team is young and eager.

The Eddies have also acquired Eric Newendorp as the team's President and General Manager.

In his career Newendorp has spent time in Major League Soccer (MLS), the United Soccer League (USL), and the North American Soccer League (NASL). He most-recently served as Vice President of Sales and Analytics for the Tulsa Drillers, the double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and in this same capacity for the Tulsa Roughnecks of the USL (now FC Tulsa) within the same organization.

Founded by brothers Tom and Dave Fath in 2010, FC Edmonton is a founding member of the Canadian Premier League (CPL), a Tier 1 Canadian professional men's soccer league that debuted in 2019. Previously, the club was a founding

member of the most-recent iteration of the now-defunct North American Soccer League (NASL), making the playoffs twice during its time in that league. The club plays home games at Clarke Stadium and continues to be an outlet for the development of Canadian soccer players to compete at play professionally in their own country.
