FC Edmonton Increases Depth at Midfield with Addition of Plumhoff
February 25, 2016 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
FC Edmonton News Release
EDMONTON, AB - FC Edmonton further increased the competition for a starting midfield position, Thursday, Feb. 25, officially announcing the addition of Bayern Munich youth product Jason Plumhoff on transfer from United Soccer League's (USL) Harrisburg City Islanders. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Plumhoff, 24, competed in the USL's Premier Development League (PDL) for both Ocean City Nor'easters and Reading United AC before signing with the USL's Islanders in 2015. Plumhoff made 22 appearances with the Islanders, registering a team-leading 10 goals in 1664 minutes of play.
"Jason is an attack-minded player from the USL who comes in highly recommended," FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller said. "Our squad is now almost complete ...With Jason's arrival, competition for places genuinely hops up."
The six-foot, American-German midfielder began his youth career in Bayern Munich's youth system from 2002-04 before moving to SpVgg Unterhaching from 2004-06. At the collegiate level, he competed for La Salle University's Explorers, an NCAA Division 1 men's soccer program (2010-13).
Plumhoff's standout collegiate year occurred in his senior year, when he received Atlantic 10 Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Philadelphia Soccer Six Player of the Year and was selected to both the NSCAA All-Region First Team and ECAC All-Star roster.
"He can play across the middle of the park," Miller added. "He can play on the left side, right side and also as a number 10. It's a situation where we were the league's top scorers for a long period of time last year and we don't want to lose that scoring emphasis this season."
Plumhoff and FC Edmonton open their 2016 North American Soccer League campaign, April 2 against Rayo OKC, and will host a family friendly Viewing Party at 1ST RND Downtown. The team returns home for their Home Opener, April 10 against Minnesota United FC. Kick-off at Clarke Field is set for 2:00 p.m. MT.
