FC Edmonton News Release
Edmonton, AB - FC Edmonton is pleased to announce the club has signed defender Mélé Temguia and midfielder Philippe Lincourt-Joseph to contracts, as the Eddies continue to shape their roster ahead of the inaugural Canadian Premier League season.
Temguia, 23, was born in Germany, but has Canadian citizenship. The centreback is a product of the Montreal Impact Academy, and spent two seasons playing for FC Montreal in the United Soccer League in 2015 & 2016. In 2017, Temguia spent time with FC Cincinnati of the USL, before playing for Valentine Phoenix FC and Hume City FC in Australia during 2018.
"I am thankful and excited for this opportunity," said Temguia. "I will always work hard and do my best for my teammates, the club, the fans and the city."
"We get a young player you can mold in that position, which is a key spot, and we'll see where his potential takes him, but he'll definitely get an opportunity," said FC Edmonton Head Coach and Director of Soccer Operations Jeff Paulus.
Lincourt-Joseph, 24, also came through the Montreal Impact Academy, and was Temguia's teammate with FC Montreal in 2015-16. The midfielder signed with C.D. Fátima of the Portuguese third division in 2017, scoring one goal in seven appearances. Most recently, Lincourt-Joseph played with Al-Rustaq SC of the Oman Professional League.
"I think it's good to learn from every soccer culture you can," Lincourt-Joseph said. "I think I come back here with more confidence, knowledge and experience than before, so that's a big plus."
"Philippe gives us something different," Paulus said. "He'll take players on 1-v-1 at the right times, he's got movement off the ball to help break down the back line, and he'll also be able to break lines with his passing."
