FC Edmonton News Release
EDMONTON, Ab. - FC Edmonton has signed on a new right back, Jeffrey Quijano.
Quijano is a 6'1", 175 lbs., 23-year-old California native who started playing soccer at the tender age of four and played for a club called Real So Cal.
His first stint with pro soccer will be with FC Edmonton.
"He can play right-back or centre-back," said FCE director of soccer Joe Petrone. "He's a very good young player. We are trying to bring in as many young kids as we can. He's got some speed, he's got some smarts. He's six-foot-one. He fits in with the kind of player we want here. We will see what he can do."
The fresh university graduate has been in the starting 11, playing for the University of Michigan Wolverines for the past four years. Quijano was awarded two National Team of the Week awards during the NCAA tournament for his performance.
"The NASL is a league that has been around for quite some time now," Quijano said. "Having signed on eight quality teams this year, they are perpetuating and encouraging high-level soccer in North America."
"FC Edmonton is a new team, but they are having a wonderful season so far," he added. "They are proving their many critics wrong, by thriving in their first season in a professional environment. The team definitely has swagger to their game and their results show it."
Quijano is excited to come to Canada and Edmonton specifically; he said he's heard of the big bad mall. He said he's excited for this new opportunity and can't wait to meet the team and the people of Edmonton.
FC Edmonton takes on the Montreal Impact this afternoon at Foote Field. Kick-off is at 4 p.m. Quijano will not be in the line-up.
