New Orleans VooDoo News Release
NEW ORLEANS - After a very disappointing 2-7 season last year for the Riverdale Rebels, VooDoo FB Bruce Figgins is hoping to turn the defense around as he embarks on his new journey as the defensive line coach for the high school.
Figgins was assigned to the VooDoo on January 30, 2013 and proved to be the most animated player on and off of the field. He has now embarked on a new journey during the off season as the new defensive line coach for Riverdale High School where he brings that same emotion to his guys.
"Coach Figgins is the most intense coach I have ever had, but the players feed off of his emotion," said Riverdale Head Coach Brett Bonnaffons. "He is a true mentor to the freshman and will bring a lot of good to this team."
"I bring the same emotion to coaching as if I was practicing and playing," said Coach Figgins. "I try to be an example for my guys on and off of the field so they can see what it take to succeed I football, the classroom and in life."
The local high school will participate in its first scrimmage today at 5 p.m.
"The scrimmage will be a great learning experience for a lot of these kids because, for many, it is their first time playing football," said Head Coach Bonnaffons. "We have the talent we need and a brand new coaching staff which I expect to bring a lot more excitement to the team."
"I'm very excited about this upcoming season," said Coach Figgins. "This is a great opportunity to turn things around for Riverdale High School football. I'm blessed that Coach Temple and Coach Bonnaffons gave me the opportunity to be here and I can't wait to see where were at for the scrimmage today."
The VooDoo would like to wish Coach Figgins and the Riverdale Rebels the best of luck today. Their first game of the regular season will be held on September 6 at 7 p.m. vs. Archbishop Hannan. The VooDoo will keep you updated on the progress of the Rebels and Coach Figgins throughout the season.
