Ottawa Fury FC News Release

OTTAWA, ON - It was both offence and defence that got the job done Saturday night in San Antonio sending Fury FC past the Scorpions 1-0. Brazilian striker Oliver scored the match-winner with his second goal in as many games, and Irish defender Colin Falvey was rock-solid on defence en route to the team's tenth shutout of the season. On Wednesday, the NASL named Oliver and Falvey to the NASL Team of the Week, the second weekly honour for both players this season and the second straight week Oliver has been included in the weekly Best XI.

Booming with confidence after scoring his first of the season the weekend prior in a 2-2 draw with Tampa Bay, Oliver looked dangerous all night in San Antonio and did not disappoint as he headed his second goal in as many games past Daniel Fernandes eight minutes into the second half to pace Ottawa to the early second half lead over 10-man San Antonio. Oliver has proven a more dangerous threat with each game since his return from a hamstring injury. Now back to full strength, fans, and opponents, are starting to see the Oliver that led Fury FC in scoring in 2014.

With every game it is becoming more clear that Colin Falvey is among the most solid and consistent central defenders in the NASL and arguably one of the most prolific slide-tacklers. Falvey's defensive talents were on display Saturday night in the hot and humid conditions at Toyota Field. Timely challenges, blocked shots and a very physical presence helped Fury FC to their league-leading tenth shutout of the season. The Irish defender has played every minute of every game for Ottawa this season - a club that boasts the best defensive record in the league with Falvey at the heart of that success.

Fury FC return home to TD Place Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm for a crucial match against Fort Lauderdale, the first of a home-and-home series with the Strikers. Ottawa will look grow their lead atop the NASL Fall Season standings (currently at 5-points) while Fort Lauderdale find themselves three points back of Tampa Bay for the fourth and final spot in the NASL post-season. Tickets to Saturday's match and all remaining matches are available at OttawaFuryFC.com.
