Falcons sweep Armada

June 6, 2005 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Surprise Fightin' Falcons News Release

If the first two turns through the rotation is any indication, the Surprise Fightin' Falcons are going to have a formidable starting rotation this season.

RHP James Beever Jr. nearly pitched the Falcons' first complete game of the season Sunday night, going 8-2/3 innings in pitching Surprise to a 7-2 win over Long Beach and a three game sweep of the Armada at Surprise Stadium.

Beever Jr. followed solid performances this season by Chris Russ, Pete Hartmann and David Seccombe to give the team four solid starters so far. Beever Jr. scattered eight hits, walked three and struck out six to help Surprise improve to 6-4 on the season. The home sweep erased three losses in three games at Yuma to begin the week.

The Falcons are hoping their bats stay hot. Of Surprise's 13 hits Sunday night, six were extra base hits – including two triples. C Greg Stevens went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and all Falcons players who batted except one got at least one hit. Beever Jr. also had a good night at the plate, going 2-for-4 and an RBI.

Surprise continues its 10-game homestand with three against Fullerton Monday through Wednesday and four against Chico Thursday through next Sunday, including a doubleheader in the second game.
