Kelowna Falcons News Release
LONGVIEW, WA. - The Kelowna Falcons used a strong five inning, eleven strikeout relief effort from Cal Hehnke to help them to an 8-6 victory in 12 innings over the Cowlitz Black Bears from David Story Field.
For the fifth straight game, the Falcons saw the opposing side score first as Cowlitz brought across one in the 1st and a run in the 2nd inning to take a 2-0 lead on Kelowna starter Owen Leonard, who settled into a nice groove after that and allowed the Falcons offence to go to work.
Taylor Wright hit a sacrifice fly to center field before the Black Bears answered with a run in the 6th inning to push their lead back to two runs at 3-1. The Falcons scored a run in the 7th inning, thanks to a Lucas Soper sacrifice fly before the offence came alive with three runs in the 8th inning, anchored by a two-run single off the bat of Steffen Torgerson to give Kelowna their first lead of the game at 6-3.
Austin Bell provided fireworks in the bottom half of the 8th inning with a three-run homer to right field to tie the game before Cal Hehnke closed the door out of the bullpen, striking out 11 batters over 5 strong innings of relief. Lucas Soper drove in the leading run and Trent Tinglestad provided insurance in the 12th inning to close out an 8-6 victory for the Falcons.
After a stellar performance, out of the bullpen, Hehnke picked up the much-deserved victory to improve to 1-0 while Joe Solomon took the loss for the Black Bears. The two teams meet again for the final time on the weekend with the rubber match of the three-game set going on Sunday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 PM before the Falcons return to Elks Stadium for a playoff rematch against the Victoria HarbourCats.
