Falcons Fall in Road Trip Opener to Cowlitz

LONGVIEW, WA. - The Kelowna Falcons suffered their third straight loss in the opening game of a three-game series against the Cowlitz Black Bears by a 6-2 score on Friday night at David Story Field.

Austin Bell opened the scoring in the 1st inning with a two-run home run to right field off of starting pitcher Dru Fitz before the Black Bears plated another pair of runs in the 2nd inning to stake them to a 4-0 lead. Matt Voelzke got the Falcons on the board with a line drive solo home run over the right field fence off of Cowlitz starter Zach Heaton for his 1st jack of the season and made it 4-1 Black Bears.

Andres Sosa ripped the third home run of the ballgame over the right field seats to make it 6-1 in the 5th inning before Dan Pruitt cut the Kelowna deficit with an RBI infield single to third base with the bases loaded to make the final score 6-2 in favour of the Black Bears.

Starter Dru Fitz was saddled with the loss on the night, allowing 5 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits with 6 strikeouts while reliever Marty Maves picked up the win for Cowlitz, coming on in relief with a scoreless inning while striking out one to improve to 2-0 on the season. The two teams will battle against each other at David Story Field on Saturday night with first pitch scheduled at 6:35 PM on mixlr.com/kelowna_falcons with Trevor Miller.
