Kelowna Falcons News Release
KELOWNA, B.C. - The Kelowna Falcons amassed a season-high 18 hits with Trevor Brigden going six scoreless innings in a 9-0 shutout victory over the Yakima Valley Pippins on Saturday night at Elks Stadium.
Brigden struck out eight batters while walking just two and gave up seven hits as he picked up his first West Coast League victory as Trent Tinglestad went 3-for-4 with four RBI's and newcomers Drew Williams and Dylan Orick combined to reach base nine times as the Falcons picked up a series win with the shutout.
The scoring got going in the opening inning for the Falcons with Tinglestad and Orick picking up RBI singles and a four-hit inning for Kelowna got them ahead by a 2-0 score. Taylor Wright added to the lead in the 2nd inning for a three-run lead off of Pippins starter Cullen Kafka.
A Garrett Kelly RBI single in the 5th inning led to Brigden being able to work his way out of a couple of innings with the Pippins getting a couple of runners on before the offence chipped in some more in the 6th inning thanks to a ground-rule double from Tinglestad and Orick being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to push the lead to 6-0.
The starter for Kelowna finished his start after six innings, handing off to the bullpen where Wyatt Hummel came on and induced a scoreless 7th inning before Kellan Richards was brought into the game in the 8th inning and threw a perfect frame.
The Falcons brought home three runs in the 8th inning and saw nine batters come to the plate with the big hit in the inning being a two-run blast over the right field wall for Tinglestad, collecting his third and fourth RBI's of the night before Garrett Kelly brought home his second RBI of the night and capped off the scoring at 9-0.
Brigden earned the victory with Kafka taking the loss for the Pippins as the Falcons look to go for the series sweep on Sunday in the finale of the season series at 6:05 PM at Elks Stadium. Tickets for the game can be purchased online HERE or at the door ahead of the first pitch.
