July 31, 2015 - West Coast League (WCL)
Kelowna Falcons News Release
The Kelowna Falcons gave up 9 runs in the first 2 innings, tried to come back, but dropped a 17-7 decision on Thursday night at Elks Stadium to the Wenatchee AppleSox.
The AppleSox jumped all over Kendall Motes in the 1st inning, scoring 6 runs on 4 hits, a walk, and 3 hit batters. Joey Jansen's chopper with 2 outs scored the 5th and 6th runs of the inning.
Kelowna responded in the bottom half, as Max Carter doubled down the line to score Justin Flores and Hunter Villanueva.
It would go to 9-2 in the top of the 2nd off of Jayse Bannister, as a wild pitch on a third strike on what would have been the 2nd out lead to the 3 runs.
The Falcons would make it 9-6 in the 4th by scoring 4 times. Vinny Esposito scored Brandon Oliver, before Andre Jackson hit a Sac Fly to score Esposito. JJ Muno had an RBI single, his first of 3 hits on the night in his final game before attending summer classes at UC Santa Barbara. Villanueva cashed in the 6th run.
From there, Wenatchee would score 2 in the 5th, 2 in the 7th, and 3 more in the 8th. Grant Meylan threw 1.2 innings in relief, allowing 1 run. Normally a position player, Meylan gave up 2 hits and 1 walk.
Offensively for Kelowna, Villanueva finished 2-4, Muno 3-5, while Carter had 2 RBI's and a 3-5 night.
The Falcons head to Bellingham Friday to take on the West Division leading Bells. Kelowna currently has a 5.5 game lead in the WCL East.
