Jersey Express News Release

Newark, N.J. (Tuesday, July 21, 2009) - In conjunction with the Boys & Girls Club of Newark, the Jersey Express of the American Basketball Association will be hosting a "Young and Old" Basketball Tournament this weekend at Hardwood Arena on the campus of Kean University. The double-elimination tournament is scheduled to start this Saturday and conclude on Sunday with all proceeds benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Newark.

"We are happy to help the Boys & Girls Club of Newark to be able to showcase not only the basketball talent in the area but also show the youth that all things are possible if you work hard, stay in school and take advantage of everything that the Boys & Girls Clubs have to offer," Express President Marsha Blount commented.

The entry fee for this tournament is $350 per team, and entrance into the competition guarantees at least two games. Each contest will consist of two running halves with time stoppage occurring within the final two minutes of each half. Adult games will be 20 minutes and non-adult match-ups will run for 16 minutes. For more information concerning the tournament, interested parties can call Coach Bobby at 973-760-5380.

Players from the Jersey Express will be on hand at the tournament between 1-4:00 p.m. to take pictures, sign autographs and supply information on their upcoming open tryout on Saturday, August 22nd. In addition to the Express, representatives from the Maryland Marvels, New York City Thunder and New York Red Riders of the Northeast Division of the American Basketball Association will also be in attendance.

The Express recently announced their second open tryout that will take place on Saturday, August 22nd. Through their partnership with the Newark Urban Coordinating Council and Network Youth Basketball of Newark, the tryouts will be taking place from 12-4:00 p.m. at the Westside Park Gym in Newark.

"The Jersey Express is looking for local talent to fill the remaining spots on our roster for the 2009-10 season," Express President Marsha Blount stated. "We will be signing players from the August 22nd tryout."

Pre-registration for tryouts is available through the Jersey Express website at www.jerseyexpress.net, and the cost for early registration is $75. The fee on the day of tryouts will be $100, with only cash being accepted that day. Players interested in trying out should wear basketball attire and be prepared to do a number of drills that will focus on both skill and overall knowledge of the game. As more information is made available regarding tryouts, it will be posted to the Express website.
