ATLANTA (Thursday, February 20, 2002) - The Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) announced today that the league's Exercise of Option will take place on Friday, February 21 and Waivers Draft will take place on Monday, February 24.
By 5:00 p.m. ET on February 21, each of the eight WUSA teams will be required to reduce its roster to no more than 16 players and no less than 12.
On February 24 at 4:00 p.m. ET, a Waiver Draft will be held. Any player whose option was not exercised will be available to be selected by any team via the Waiver Draft. It will last until all players involved in the Waiver Wire Process are either claimed or become unrestricted. Any player not selected during the Waivers Period may re-enter the league through the tryout process.
Featuring the best women's soccer players in the world, WUSA athletes include Mia Hamm, Brandi Chastain, Tiffeny Milbrett, Briana Scurry, Julie Foudy and dozens of international stars. The eight WUSA teams are the Atlanta Beat, Boston Breakers, Carolina Courage, New York Power, Philadelphia Charge, San Diego Spirit, San Jose CyberRays and the Washington Freedom.
