Excellent Pitching Leads to Danville's 8-2 Victory Over Dubois County

July 30, 2011 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Dubois County Bombers News Release

The cold streak continued Saturday night for the Dubois County Bombers, as the Danville Dans gave up just four hits and defeated them by a score of 8-2. The Bombers were in a hole early, as the Dans put up six runs in the second inning to take a commanding lead. Danville starting pitcher Michael Wagner threw eight innings and never allowed the Bombers' offense back in the game. This marks Dubois County's fourth straight loss after starting the second half of the Prospect League season 9-9.

Starting pitcher Sal Lisanti cruised through the first inning, but a couple of bloop hits and an error in the second inning extended the inning and made it a big one for Danville. After the inning ended, Danville was on top 6-0 and Lisanti had thrown over 30 pitches in the inning. Sal would receive the loss Saturday night, even though only one of the six runs he gave up were earned.

That would be the end of his night, as Kurt Kudrecki threw the next five innings out of the bullpen. Kudrecki pitched rather well, allowing two runs and striking out three batters. The Indiana State University sophomore was lifted to begin the eighth inning in favor of right-hander Adam Radick. Radick also had a decent outing, holding Danville scoreless in his two innings of work.

Danville starter Michael Wagner was near untouchable on the mound, as the Bomber offense only managed four hits all night. Anthony Aceto, Danny Poma, and Jamie Skagerlind all singled in the ballgame, while Skagerlind also reached base twice on balls. Right fielder T.J. Thomas had the best game of any Bomber on Saturday, as he dispatched his team leading fourth homerun of the season in the bottom of the second. The solo shot also brought Thomas' RBI total to 24 this summer, which also leads the team.

The 8-2 loss drops the Bombers to 9-13 in the second half of the season, and Danville rises to 8-15. With another win tonight, the Quincy Gems are on top of the Western Division at 15-8.

There will be another home game at League Stadium on Sunday, when the Dubois County Bombers take on the Richmond RiverRats. The Bombers will be welcoming large groups from Jasper Engines & Transmissions and Dubois County Junior Achievement. It will be Family Sunday at the ballpark, as families of three or more will receive $1 off of each ticket at the gate. In addition, immediate families of any size will not have to pay more than $20.00 to get into the game! The first pitch is scheduled for 6:15 pm EDT, and gates will open for fans beginning at 5:05.
