Evansville BlueCats News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN: The Evansville BlueCats earned their first victory of the season, 36-34, over the Ohio Valley Greyhounds on Sunday night. The win moves Evansville to (1-1) on the year. The BlueCats currently sit in third place in the UIF Eastern Conference behind Fort Wayne (2-0) and Lexington (1-0).

Both teams got off to a quick start in the first quarter with each team scoring on their first 3 possessions. Ohio Valley scored two touchdowns and a field goal and Evansville scored two field goals and a touchdown, giving the Greyhounds a 16-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The defenses stepped up in the second quarter as the pace of the game slowed. The Greyhounds managed to score a field goal and take a 6 point lead until quarterback Kewan Dewberry found Levron Williams in the back of the endzone with 2 seconds to go in the half to tie the game 19-19 at the break.

Later in the game, Dale Jennings gave the BlueCats a 36-28 lead midway through the fourth quarter when he caught a 2 yard touchdown pass from Dewberry. It was the second touchdown of the quarter for Jennings, and his third touchdown in the game.

The BlueCats defense protected their lead until the final minute of the game when Greyhounds quarterback Matt Kohn connected with receiver Willie Austin to close the gap to 2. With under a minute to go in the game the Greyhounds attempted a two-point conversion but the try was unsuccessful when Kohn's pass was deflected at the line of scrimmage and sailed high and out of bounds.

The ensuing onside kick hit the sidewall and the BlueCats ran out the clock to seal the victory. The win was Evansville's first ever victory over Ohio Valley. The BlueCats and Greyhounds did not play each other last season.

The BlueCats were led by running back Dale Jennings who scored three touchdowns in the game. Jennings rushed for 27 yards on 8 carries and two rushing touchdowns, and added 4 catches for 35 yards and one receiving touchdown. Jennings also had 4 kick off returns for 67 yards.

Quarterback Kewan Dewberry stepped in during the second quarter and finished strong completing 6 of his 10 attempts for 48 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Wide Receiver Levron Williams had one catch, a 14-yard touchdown reception, and Sean Bennett had 2 catches for 9 yards. Bennett also had 2 rushes for 9 yards.

Ton-Ton Luzayadio was three for four on kicking both extra points and field goals. His long field goal was good from 42 yards, his only field goal miss was from over 50 yards.

The Greyhounds were led by a strong passing attack with quarterback Matt Kohn who threw for 179 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. His favorite target was wide receiver James Taylor who caught 10 passes for 107 yards. Willie Austin had four receptions and scored twice, and Derrick Stickles also scored two touchdowns for the Greyhounds, once rushing and once receiving.
