Evan Conway and Tumi Moshobane Lead SD Loyal to 2-0 Win at Hartford Athletic

HARTFORD, Conn. - San Diego Loyal SC got a brace from Evan Conway and a pair of assists from Tumi Moshobane in a 2-0 USL Championship win at Hartford Athletic Saturday night.

The Conway-Moshobane connection resulted in three points for SD Loyal in the Western Conference as it continues to navigate through a four-match road stretch, including its first visit to Connecticut and three points at Trinity Health Stadium.

SD Loyal, who will finish the long road stretch at Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on July 14, was the more dominant team against a Harford squad that came into the interconference match in last place in the Eastern Conference. Head Coach Nate Miller's team was able to implement its style of play, creating space for its attack and for Moshobane to glide through defenders and find Conway for the pair of goals.

Conway opened the scoring with a left-footed shot after beating Hartford goalkeeper Joseph Rice on a one-on-one play for the 1-0 lead. Conway's goal came off a pin-point pass by Moshobane to finish a breakaway as both SD Loyal players faced four Hartford defenders in the attack.

Conway added his second score of the night in the second half, once again on a Moshobane assist. Conway beat Rice near the mouth of the goal and tapped it in with his left foot for his team-leading eighth goal of 2023. Moshobane found Conway, sifting the ball through three defenders into the penalty area, finding space to set up the score for his team-leading fifth assist of the season. Koke Vegas picked up his third shutout of the season behind a stingy defensive performance by his back line.

With the victory, SD Loyal snaps a six-match winless streak. The club will close out its four-match road series at Colorado Springs next Friday before returning to San Diego to face German side Borussia Dortmund in an International Friendly on Thursday, July 27 at Snapdragon Stadium. Moshobane's pair of assists makes it the seventh time SD Loyal has a dual-assist performance in an USL Championship match, while Conway's brace makesis the 16th multi-goal effort in SD Loyal history.
