OTTAWA, ON - Ottawa Fury FC ran their unbeaten streak to an impressive 12 straight games Saturday night in Indianapolis with a 4-1 win over Indy Eleven. As a result of one of their most dominating performances of the season a pair of Fury FC players were named to the NASL Team of the Week, the League announced on Wednesday. Midfielder Mauro Eustaquio (Maw-ro Eh-oosh-tah-key-ew), who netted his first professional goal and defender Ryan Richter, who set-up what proved to be the match-winner both earned a spot on the Team of the Week.
Two minutes after Indy Eleven cut Ottawa's lead in half, Eustaquio won the ball in the midfield, turned a defender while providing Tom Heinemann with an outlet pass that was quickly returned to the streaking midfielder who slotted home his first career goal with Fury FC and his first as a pro. The 21 year old midfielder continues to make the most of the opportunities that Marc Dos Santos has provided him in the midfield this season.
Midfielder Ryan Richter could very well be playing the best soccer of his career. After setting up Carl Haworth's dramatic match-winner two weeks ago against the Carolina RailHawks in stoppage time, he followed that up with an outstanding defensive performance last weekend against FC Edmonton keeping Lance Laing in check. This past Saturday, Richter again show his sound defensive game, while flashing his offensive talents too. Richter set up Andrew Wiedeman's first of two goals to give Ottawa a 2-0 lead at the time.
Fury FC will look to tie the NASL unbeaten streak record (13) Saturday night at TD Place at 7:00pm against Minnesota United FC where Ottawa will don their newly release alternate kits for the first time. Saturday's match marks the first of a three-game homestand with New York (August 26) and Tampa Bay (August 29) coming to TD Place to close out the month of August.
