Portland Forest Dragons News Release
DURHAM, N.C. -- Albany-Colonie right-handed pitcher Eric Estes was chosen Sunday as the Rawlings Northern League East Player of the Month for July.
Estes, 29, posted a 4-1 record in five starts in July with a 1.36 earned run average. He beat Adirondack and Elmira twice and suffered his only loss to Quebec on July 25 despite not allowing an earned run. He posted one complete game. In 33 innings, he allowed 27 hits, 11 runs, five earned runs, one homer, three walks and struck out 33.
The Diamond Dogs acquired Estes from Elmira for outfielder Brandon Pernell at the start of July after he pitched his last game with the Pioneers on June 29. He had a 3-3 record and 5.50 ERA in six starts with Elmira.
Estes was born and raised in Vancouver, Wash., and attended Washington State University. He was picked by league statistician SportsTicker Boston as better than any other hitter or pitcher in the month.
Each Rawlings Northern League Player of the Month receives a complimentary glove from the sporting goods company. New Jersey RHP Joel Bennett won the award for the second time in his career this June.
