
Eskimos Win 2003 Grey Cup

Regina, Sask. â The Edmonton Eskimos won their 12th Grey Cup in team history by virtue of a 34-22 victory on Sunday. It marked Edmonton's first Grey Cup win since 1993. Led by the passing of quarterback Ricky Ray (22/32 â 301 yds â 2 TDs) and the receiving prowess of Jason Tucker (7 catches â 132 yds â 2 Tds) the Green and Gold captured their 12th Grey Cup in franchise history. Being the 10th time these two have met in Grey Cup history the Eskimos now hold a 7-3 advantage in Grey Cup play. This also marks the fourth year in a row that the city that hosted the previous Grey Cup has won the championship the following year.
The Most Valuable Player in the game was Edmonton receiver Jason Tucker and the Most Valuable Canadian was receiver Ben Cahoon of the Alouettes (6-148-2 TDs).
A sell-out crowd of 50,909 Canadian Football League fans witnessed the event, the second time the Cup has been held in Regina (other in 1995). The event, including half-time performances by Bryan Adams and Sam Roberts was shown live on CBC Television and RDS.
The 91st Grey Cup win by Edmonton capped a week-long series of festivities rivaled by none. CFL fans from far and wide traveled to Regina to experience the thrill of Grey Cup week in the heartland of Rider Pride.
The 2003 Grey Cup marks the third year in a row that game attendance has exceeded 50,000 fans, for the first time since the 1993-95 seasons.
