EPHL 2008-09 season reaches the half-way point this week

Last Week in Review

The first place Brooklyn Aces (21-2-2) continued their regular season domination of the EPHL by winning three in a row; including wins over all three EPHL opponents. The Danbury Mad Hatters (11-10-1) went 2-1 on the week, including an exciting 5-4 shootout victory over Hudson Valley (2-20-1) on Sunday. With the Jersey Rockhoppers (13-10-1) going 1-2 last week, the Mad Hatters have again closed to within three points of second place.

EPHL Player of the Week

Brooklyn Aces forward Mike Thomson from La Habra, California is the Eastern Professional Hockey League Player of the Week. Thomson, who is in his first professional season following playing at SUNY-Plattsburgh, scored four goals and added three assists last week. Mike scored a hat trick on January 15th against Hudson Valley and scored the game winning goal the next night vs. Jersey. On the year, he has 13 goals & 13 assists for 26 pts.

EPHL Goaltender of the Week

Brooklyn, New York's own Miroslav Recicar from the Brooklyn Aces has been named the Eastern Professional Hockey League Goaltender of the Week. The 5'-11", 180 lbs net minder won three in a row last week to improve his season record to an impressive 12-0-0. In the three victories, Recicar stopped 83 of 91 shots, including 36 of 37 against Jersey on 1/16. In addition to his undefeated EPHL record, Miroslav has posted a league best 3.13 goals against average and an 89.6% save percentage.

EPHL Notes

The most talked about rivalry in the EPHL continues this week when Brooklyn and Danbury have another home & home series beginning on Saturday night in Danbury and the second game is Sunday afternoon in Brooklyn......Brooklyn currently leads the season series 7-2 but the games have been very physical with many story lines...the Aces Kyle McCullough is the EPHL's leading scorer with 15 goals-35 assists-50 points in twenty-five games.
