SPOKANE, Washington - The Spokane Empire has signed receiver Trevor Kennedy to the 2016 roster.

Kennedy (WR, 6-0, 205, Mercyhurst) joins the Empire for his first season as a member of the IFL after participating in the team's open tryout at The Chamber in Miami, Florida last December. Kennedy most recently spent time with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League. Prior to his CFL opportunity, Kennedy participated in tryouts with the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Green Bay Packers.

Kennedy had a decorated collegiate career at Mercyhurst University (PA) where he finished second all-time in receptions (194), receiving yards (2,758), and all-purpose yards (4,249). He also tied the school's career receiving touchdown record (28) and holds the record for all-purpose yards per game, averaging 118 per game over 36 career games.

In 2011, he led all of Division II in receiving yards per game, averaging 126.3 yards per contest. He set Mercyhurst single-season records for receptions (88), receiving yards (1,389), receiving touchdowns (15), and all-purpose yards (2,232). He held the previous records for receptions (75) and touchdowns (11), which he set during the PSAC Championship year of 2010.

"In our recent try out in Miami, Florida we saw a lot of tremendous talent but Trevor stood out in both the testing and football drills with his tremendous speed and athleticism," said Empire Head Coach Adam Shackleford. "Coming from a small college he has signed both an NFL and CFL contracts in the past and is hoping that a year in Spokane will get him similar opportunities in the future."
