Spokane Empire News Release
SPOKANE, Washington - The Spokane Empire has signed wide receiver Samuel Charles to their 2016 roster.
Charles (WR, 6-3, 210, Edward Waters) joins the Empire for his second season as a member of the IFL. In 2014 as a member of the IFL's Wyoming Calvary, Charles saw action in 14 games and led the team with 79 receptions for 849 yards and 22 touchdowns. He would go on to sign with the Shock at the end of the AFL's 2014 season but would not see the field. During the 2015 AFL season in Spokane, Charles saw action in four games and recorded 20 receptions for 221 yards and three touchdowns before suffering a season ending knee injury.
Prior to his professional career, Charles played his collegiate career at Edward Waters College (FL) where he earned All-Independent NAIA Second Team honors during his senior season in 2009. He played his prep career at Hialeah-Miami Lakes High School in Hialeah, Florida.
"Samuel is a tough, big, and physical receiver with experience in professional football which includes the IFL," said Empire Head Coach Adam Shackleford. "We expect big things from him and understand getting an experienced player this close to the start of camp is a big deal."
Additional Transactions: The Empire released receiver Williams Dukes (Florida Atlantic).
