Spokane Empire News Release

Trainor (QB, 6-2, 225, West Georgia) joins the Empire for his rookie season as a member of the IFL. He began his collegiate career at Florida A&M University where he played in 13 total contests between 2010 and 2011. As a freshman he helped the Rattlers to six consecutive wins to end the season, earning the team MEAC co-champion honors. During his two years at FAMU, he completed 116-of-249 passes for 1,457 yards and nine touchdowns while adding two rushing scores.

Austin transferred to West Georgia University for his final two collegiate seasons. During his junior year in 2012, he played in seven games but had his season cut short due to injury. While active, he completed 78-of-140 pass attempts for 825 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 43 rushes for 154 yards and four scores. As a senior, Austin played in eleven games and completed 65-of-139 passes for 870 yards and seven total touchdowns (six passing).

Trainor received a workout invite from the NFL's Oakland Raiders after his senior season at West Georgia. The Empire originally met Austin at their open tryout in Davie, Florida last December.

"We liked what we saw from Austin during our tryout last winter and have kept in touch with him since then," said Head Coach Adam Shackleford. "He has the ability to be a run threat from the quarterback position and impressed us with his throwing ability the last time we were able to work him out."
