SPOKANE, Washington (November 11, 2015) - The Empire has signed defensive lineman O.J. Mau to their 2017 IFL roster. Mau (DL, 6-1, 305, Gardner-Webb), who's full name is O.J. Lei'ataua Fa'amausili Mau, joins the Empire for his first season as a member of the IFL. He most recently spent time with the CFL's Ottawa Redblacks and the NFL's Baltimore Ravens. "O.J. Mau is a nose guard like we have not had in an Empire uniform. He is a terrific run-stopper," said Empire Head Coach Adam Shackleford. "His body type makes him very tough to move off the line of scrimmage, and he has the push to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks in the pocket ." Over his four collegiate seasons at Garnder-Webb University (NC), Mau saw action in 45 total contests and recorded 194 total tackles (75 solos), 13 sacks, 34.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, one pass break-up, and two blocks. He received First Team All-Big South honors each of his final three seasons and was an FCS Defensive Player of the Year finalist after back-to-back 60 tackle seasons as a junior and senior. O.J. was also named to the FCS All-American team as a junior and was on the Preseason All-American list going into his senior year. He is originally from Masefau, America Samoa where he played his prep football at Fagaitua High School.
