SPOKANE, Washington - The Spokane Empire has signed defensive back Josh Ferguson to their 2016 roster.

Ferguson (DB, 5-8, 185, UTEP) joins the Empire for his first season as a member of the IFL. Josh will return to the field in 2016 after a two-year hiatus from professional football. Before his break he played four seasons in the Arena Football League. During his rookie season in 2010 with the Chicago Rush, Ferguson recorded a career-high 91 tackles and nine interceptions. He would go on to spend two seasons with the Spokane Shock and tally 32 tackles in six games in 2011, then 72 tackles and two interceptions in 2012. In his most recent season in 2013 with the Utah Blaze, Josh collected 31.5 tackles and one interception in eight games.

Prior to his professional career, Ferguson completed his final three collegiate seasons at the University of Texas-El Paso where he received All-Conference USA honors during his junior season. He spent his first year of college at Chabot College in Hayward, California where he earned first team All-Conference honors and led the state of California in punt return average (21 yards per return) and kickoff return average (33 yards per return). Josh played his prep career at Hayward High School in Hayward, Calif.

"We're adding a quality veteran to round an already very talented secondary this close to camp, which puts us in a very good spot," said Empire Head Coach Adam Shackleford. "Josh has great football instincts that are unteachable and has very good cover skills against the motion."

Additional Transactions: The Empire released defensive back Lorenzo Waters (Rutgers).
