SPOKANE, Washington- The Empire has re-signed defensive lineman Brett Bowers to their 2017 IFL roster.

Bowers (6-3, 265, New Mexico) joins the Empire for his second year as a member of the IFL. During his rookie season in Spokane, Brett saw action in 12 regular season games as he recorded 30 total tackles (27 solos), 13.5 tackles for loss, and was second on the team with 5.5 sacks.

"Brett Bowers was a very important part of our defensive line last year," said Empire Head Coach Adam Shackleford. "He's a very good pass rusher with the strength to protect against the run game. His high motor and work ethic make him a force to be reckoned with in this league."

Bowers completed his final two collegiate seasons at the University of New Mexico where he appeared in 23 games and recorded 67 total tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, nine sacks, and three forced fumbles. Before becoming a Lobo, Bowers played at Mendocino Junior College where he earned All-Bay Valley Conference honors in 2012 as he recorded 44 total tackles (23 tackles for loss), 16.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and blocked one kick. He played his prep career at Ukiah High School in Ukiah, CA.
