SPOKANE, Washington- The Empire has re-signed defensive back Adrian James to their 2017 IFL roster.

James (DB, 6-0, 200, Texas-El Paso) joins the Empire for his second year as a member of the IFL. During his rookie season, Adrian joined Spokane late in the season but saw action in six games while recording 9.5 total tackles (nine solos) and three interceptions.

"Adrian James had his rookie season cut short because of injury, but that didn't stop him from being an immediate impact for us," said Empire Head Coach Adam Shackleford. "He is a special athlete that has elite cover skills with a physical style of play that sticks out on film."

Adrian played his collegiate career at the University of Texas-El Paso and saw action in 45 contests as he recorded 78 total tackles (43 solos). During his senior season, he started all 12 games and recorded 37 tackles (20 solos), one interception, a quarterback hurry, a forced fumble and was second on the team in pass breakups (6). After college, James received an invitation to workout for the NFL's Dallas Cowboys.

He played his prep career at Skyline High School in Dallas, Texas where he earned All-District 9-5A honors and helped his team to a 12-1 season and berth in the state title game.
