
Empire Fall to Storm 35-59

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Empire (12-3) fell to the Sioux Falls Storm (15-1) by a final score of 35-59 at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena in Week 18 of the 2016 Indoor Football League regular season.
Spokane struck first as running back Josh Ferguson scampered into the end zone from 15-yards out on the Empire's opening possession of the game. After holding the Storm on fourth down in the red zone, Spokane was positioned to take a two-score lead, but Sioux Falls recorded their first of five interceptions on the night that led to a touchdown and a 7-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Empire took their final lead of the night early in the second quarter at 14-7 after wide receiver Diondre Borel scored on a one-yard shovel sweep and Spokane converted on a two-point conversion. Despite an interception by Empire defensive back Andre James, Sioux Falls would create two additional turnovers in the quarter and convert on a 30-yard field goal as time expired to maintain a 24-21 lead going into the half.
Sioux Falls rallied to start the second half as they recorded 13 unanswered points. After scoring on their opening possession, they held the Empire to a missed 21-yard field goal. One play later, Storm quarterback Lorenzo Brown connected with wide receiver Caleb Holley on a 45-yard deep ball to extend the Sioux Falls lead to 37-21.
The final quarter of play was all Sioux Falls as they would go on to score 23 points while allowing Spokane to find the end zone only once. In total on the night, the Storm created 30-points on defensive turnovers as they would go on to defeat Spokane by a final of 59-35.
