Connecticut Whale News Release
(Brooklyn, N.Y.) - The Premier Hockey Federation today announced that forward Emma Vlasic of the Connecticut Whale will compete in the 2022 PHF All-Star Showcase. The event is scheduled for Saturday, January 29, with a 5:30 p.m. ET puck drop at Buffalo's Northtown Center.
Vlasic is currently enjoying her third career PHF campaign in Connecticut and has six points including two goals in 10 games. She's helped the Whale to a second place standing at the midway mark of the season with a 6-3-1 record. The 25-year-old from Wilmette, IL is a Yale University graduate who served as Bulldogs captain during her senior year in 2018-19. The following season she turned pro and was a mid-season All-Star competing as a member of Team Dempsey during the 2020 event in Boston. Her PHF career totals to date include 12 goals and seven assists for 19 points in 38 games.
She replaces forward Michela Cava of the Toronto Six who was among the 30 preliminary All-Star selections made by PHF coaches. Cava is returning overseas to fulfill contractual obligations with KRS Vanke Rays.
Vlasic was among the nominees on the final ballot for All-Star consideration as part of the selection process by PHF coaches. She is added to the event by virtue of having received the most votes and top average ranking of votes relative to all eligible forward candidates not previously named. She becomes the eighth member of the Whale to receive an All-Star selection joining fellow forwards Taylor Girard, Kennedy Marchment and Alyssa Wohlfeiler, along with goaltender Abbie Ives and defenders Tori Howran, Allie Munroe and Shannon Turner.
Roster selection for the 2022 All-Star Showcase will be determined through a virtual draft led by captains Shiann Darkangelo, Jillian Dempsey, and Allie Thunstrom. Results will be revealed this weekend live on ESPN+. The draft's first six picks (two per team) will be announced during the second intermission of games on Saturday, January 15 between Metropolitan and Connecticut at 1:00 p.m. ET and again during the Buffalo and Toronto matchup at 2:00 p.m. ET. The full rosters will be unveiled during the second intermission of games on Sunday, January 16 when the Beauts take on the Six starting at 2:00 p.m. ET, and the Riveters and Whale beginning at 6:00 p.m. ET.
