El Paso Locomotive FC News Release
El Paso Locomotive (9-11-7, 34 points, West-7) dropped points against San Diego Loyal SC who currently sit in the number two spot of the Western Conference. This was the first home match against San Diego in Locomotive history.
El Paso came out aggressive and pressed San Diego Loyal from the opening minutes of the match. Early attacking opportunities presented themselves for the Locos, but weren't able to put them away. In the 40 minute after an amazing build up, Dylan Mares hit a beautifully placed shot and put it wide of the keeper but just hitting the inside of the post to deflect back into San Diego possession. Mares would find one in the 70 minute and record the first Olimpico goal in Locomotive history. "I have never done that before. The objective was to crowd the goalie, put the ball in and hope for the best," said Mares.
Ukrainian newcomer Artem Kholod made his first appearance in the Locomotive lineup tonight, coming into the match in the 77 minute. "He is a good boy, and he is going to fit in really well," commented John Hutchinson, Locomotive Head Coach and Technical Director. "He's very good one on one defending and getting forward ... I enjoyed his energy when he came on."
