Manchester Wolves News Release

The arenafootball2 league office announced that OL/DL Mike Wells and OL/DL Abdul-Aziz Shabazz-Wiggins have been assigned to the Manchester Wolves professional af2 team for the 2007 season. Wells and Wiggins have played for the Wolves since their inaugural season in 2004, and will bring eight years of af2 experience to the table this season.

Wells (6-3, 285), a University of New Hampshire graduate, will come back for his fourth season with the Wolves after playing in 42 games the last three seasons. The Salem, N.H. native known best for his smart play of both sides of the ball has collected 32.0 total tackles, 12.0 pass breakups, four sacks, one forced fumble, five quarterback hurries and one blocked kick during his Wolves career. Prior to joining the Wolves, Wells served as an Offensive Line Coach for two years (2002-2003) at Saint Anselm College in N.H. At Salem High School Wells lettered in football, wrestling and track for the Blue Devils. During his four-year high school career, Wells earned a 36-7 record as a heavyweight wrestler, was selected to the NH Shrine All-Star Football team, twice earned all-state honors and was part of an undefeated 12-0 football team in 1995 that won the Division III State Championship.

"Getting Mike back is huge for us, not only is he talented on both sides of the football but he brings a much needed leadership quality to this team," said Wolves Head Coach Ben Bennett. "I'm tickled to no end about him returning and I'm sure the fans are too."

Wiggins (6-1, 350), a five-year af2 veteran from Chowan College, will also come back for his fourth season with Wolves. The Newbern, S.C. native has amassed 28.5 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries, 16 quarterback hurries and one forced fumble in 30 games during the last three seasons for the Wolves. Prior to the Wolves, Wiggins spent two season playing for the now defunct Norfolk Nighthawks (2002-2003) where he collected 32.0 tackles, five sacks, five quarterback hurries, one fumble recovery, four forced fumbles, four blocked kicks and two safeties in 22 games.

"He's a veteran and a leader," added Bennett on Wiggins. "When he is healthy, he can crush a pocket with his strength and technique."
