 Bloomington Edge News Release
Bloomington, Ill. - The Bloomington Edge defeated the Bismarck Bucks 24-21 on Saturday night inside the U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington Illinois. This marks the Edge's third win in the last four games.
With 4 seconds left on the game clock, and the Edge up 3, Bismarck lined up for a potential game tying field goal. After the obligatory "ice the kicker" time out, the snap was good, the hold was good, and the kick was straight. When the ball hit the red turf two yards short of the cross bar, the Edge faithful erupted and the team moved to 3-1.
The game felt like it would be another high scoring affair when the Edge scored on their first possession. Quarterback Caleb Holbrook found the end zone on a keeper from 1 yard out. After a defensive stop, the Edge opened up a 14-0 lead when Holbrook found wide receiver Marcus Lewis for the Edge's second touchdown in the first quarter.
Just when it seemed like Bloomington might run Bismarck right out of the building, the Bucks answered with their first points of the game. Running back Jauhem Byrd-Mix scored on a 9 yard run with a little over two minutes left in the first quarter. The extra point was missed leaving the score 14-6 in favor of the Edge.
Kicker Cody Barber was the next player to score for the Edge when he kicked a season long 52 yard field goal lengthening Bloomington's lead to 17-6. After another Buck's touchdown by Byrd-Mix, Lewis scored his second touchdown of the game, This one came from nine yards out with just 49 seconds left in the first half. The Edge went into the locker room up 24-14.
In the second half, both defenses ratcheted up the intensity. The Bucks defense was able to keep the Edge offense out of the end zone for both the third and fourth quarters. The Edge defense surrendered a late fourth quarter touchdown which tightened the score to 24-21, but that was as close as the Bucks would get. The Edge defense got the stops they needed to preserve the win, including on two Buck possession in the last minute of the game.
Kyle Jenkins came up big for the Edge defense with 2.5 sacks. Brandon Pittman was in on 9 tackles and Brandon Clarke had a key interception to go along with being in on 7 tackles.
After back-to-back home games, the Edge will play their first of three road games this Saturday April 1st against Kansas City. The two teams played one of the most exciting games of the season when they met three weeks ago when the Edge erase a 17 point third quarter deficit to spoil the Phantoms home opener.
The Edge returns home on April 22nd. To purchase season tickets or single game tickets for the remaining three home games please call (848) 840-EDGE or visit us online at www.bloomingtonedge.net.
