
Edge Home Opener to Honor Burk

The Bloomington Edge are preparing for a home opener against a long-time opponent and the retirement of the jersey of a record-holding quarterback.
The Edge host the Omaha Beef on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Champions Professional Indoor Football League action. A pre-game ceremony will honor Dusty Burk, who was the first player signed to a Bloomington indoor football contract when the sport arrived in the Twin Cities in 2006. Burk led Bloomington to playoff berths in five of his six seasons and was Most Valuable Player of the United Indoor Football All-Star Game in 2006. Burk is currently an assistant coach with the Edge and is the head football coach at University High School in Normal.
The Edge (0-2) had last week off after suffering a back-and-forth 54-50 loss to the Lincoln Haymakers on March 14 after falling 56-20 at Salina a week earlier in the opener. The Beef (1-2) also lost to the Haymakers in their last action, a 59-20 decision in Omaha, after losing their opener to Dodge City 61-35 followed by a 55-27 win over Kansas. This is the first road game for the Beef.
Edge quarterback Charles Dowdell has completed 55 percent of his passes for 394 yards and five touchdowns with two interceptions over the two games. Marcus Lewis is responsible for nearly half of the receiving yardage with 183 yards on 12 catches with three touchdowns. Andre Raymond has carried the ball 17 times for 53 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Edge ground game. Cody Acree has 11 tackles for the Edge followed by Alex Otoo and Eric Fisher with 10.
Preston Brown is the leading offensive threat for the Beef with 117 rushing yards and 148 receiving yards for 273 all-purpose yards and five total touchdowns. Lee Chapple has completed 64.5 percent of his passes for 395 yards and 11 touchdowns. Noah Keller has been a part of 29 Beef tackles, second in the CPIFL, while Brock Gentile has participated in 20 stops.
