Bloomington Edge News Release
The Bloomington Edge have announced a pair of "big" signings to anchor the defensive line as preparations continue for the 2014 Champions Professional Indoor Football League season.
Marvin Campbell (6-3, 330 pounds) and Lawrence "Moe" Dampeer (6-3, 380) are usually understandably addressed as "Big Marv" and "Big Moe", and Edge head coach John Johnson expects big contributions from both men. Campbell remains with the Edge while Dampeer most recently played with the Bricktown Brawlers (Oklahoma City) of the Indoor Football League.
Campbell is an indoor football veteran returning for his fifth season in Bloomington. He earned United Indoor Football All-Star honors in 2008. Last season with the Edge, he recorded 24 tackles with 11.5 for loss and three sacks. Campbell was part of a national junior college championship team in 2004 with Harper College in Palatine, Ill. and has also spent time in the camp of the Washington Redskins.
Dampeer began his college career at the University of Oklahoma and played in the Orange Bowl with the Sooners in the 2004 season. He continued his college career at Joliet Junior College and at perennial Division II powerhouse Northwest Missouri State University. With the Brawlers, he started six games and collected 30 tackles and six sacks before suffering a season-ending calf injury. Dampeer graduated from MacArthur High School in Decatur where he not only stood out on the football field as the second-ranked defensive tackle by Rivals.com, but was an all-state basketball player.
The Edge open the 2014 season on March 7 in Kansas against the Salina Bombers. The Edge home opener is Saturday, March 29 at 7:05 p.m. against long-time rival Omaha Beef. Season tickets for all six Edge home games at U.S. Cellular Coliseum are available now by calling 309-434-2980. Edge information can also be found at www.bloomingtonedge.com as well as Facebook and Twitter.
