Edge Bolster Defensive Backfield, Add Two DBs

Bloomington, IL - The Bloomington Edge continue to bolster their defensive backfield with the addition of two players: returning defensive back Jeremy Caldwell and former Chicago Eagles defensive back Anthony "Fresh" Hughes.

Caldwell (5'10, 185 - Eastern Kentucky) returns to the Edge for his second professional football season in 2017. After college, Caldwell signed with had a brief stint with the then-St.Louis Rams as an undrafted free agent. In 12 appearances for the Edge, Caldwell notched 52 tackles while recording eight defended passes, three of which were interceptions.

In his years at Eastern Kentucky, Caldwell started all four years and was a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, an annual award that goes to the most outstanding defensive player in the FCS. During his four seasons, he recorded fifteen interceptions, three of which he took back for touchdowns, as well as seven touchdowns by way of kick or punt return. He also led the Ohio Valley conference in interceptions in 2010.

"Jeremy was a great asset to the defense last season and we look forward to him returning," Edge head coach Ameer Ismail stated. "He plays a very high level of football and we glad to have him on board for his second season in Bloomington."

Hughes (6'0, 192 - MacMurray) comes to the Edge after having indoor experience with the Chicago Blitz as well as the Chicago Eagles. As a member of the Chicago Blitz, he was on a top-rated defensive backfield that took led the team to the 2014 AIF championship. Along with his indoor experience, over the past five seasons he has been invited to various NFL, CFL, and AFL combines.

Hughes came onto the indoor scene out of MacMurray College by way of Rock Valley Junior College. During his college tenure, he led the conference in various kick and punt return categories in addition to playing defensive back.
