The Bloomington Edge have announced the signings of experienced leaders on both sides of the ball as they prepare for the 2014 Champions Professional Indoor Football League season.
Charles Dowdell has been signed to quarterback the Edge offense after spending the 2012 season in Bloomington as a quarterback and a wide receiver. Dowdell is a Fort Wayne, Indiana, native who split his college career at Indiana State and Saginaw Valley State. In his final two college seasons at SVSU, the 6-0, 210-pounder threw for 3,784 yards with 27 touchdowns and rushed for 1,327 yards and 16 touchdowns.Dowdell was with the Green Bay Blizzard of the Indoor Football League last season and was with the Saginaw Sting in 2011 before joining Bloomington the following year.
Ross Cochran returns at linebacker after leading the Edge in 2013 with 83 tackles including seven tackles for loss and three-and-a-half sacks. Cochran was runner-up for CPIFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2013.He registered 15 tackles in a game twice last season. The 6-1, 245-pounder was an all-conference player in two seasons at the University of North Dakota and was in National Football League camps with the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears. His indoor football experience includes time with the Milwaukee Mustangs of the Arena Football League and the Sioux Falls Storm of the Indoor Football League.
The Edge open their second season in the CPIFL on March 7 at the Salina Bombers with the home opener slated for Saturday, March 29 at 7:05 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Coliseum against the Omaha Beef.
