SAN ANTONIO, TX - FC Edmonton's winning streak ended after a 3-0 loss to San Antonio down in Texas on Saturday, September 6. The Eddies were forced to play with nine men for the majority of the second half after red cards were issued to Eddie Edward and Cristian Raudales.

The Eddies began the first half well with right midfielder Horace James making some speedy runs down the near side of the field. San Antonio matched the Eddies in every step of the first half and out paced the FC Edmonton backline on a few occasions to cause some worries for the visiting team.

San Antonio were able to break the 0-0 deadlock in the 37th minute when Rafael Castillo's shot bounced off the inside near post and into the net to give the home side the one goal advantage at 1-0.

FC Edmonton's best chance of the half came from Ritchie Jones at the top of the 18-yard box, but the Eddies midfielder pulled it just wide of the near post to leave them down a goal heading into halftime.

"I thought we started the match really well," said FCE head coach Colin Miller after 45 minutes. "I'm disappointed by our lack of possession after the first half. We're playing against a very good team and given time, they will take advantage of that."

The Eddies luck turned against them in the 65th minute when Edward pulled down his man in the box to earn himself a red card and a penalty kick given to San Antonio. Fortunately, Eddies 'keeper Lance Parker chose this moment to make a big save and deny the Scorpions Thomas Zahorski the goal from the spot to keep the game 1-0 for the home team.

It went from bad to worse for the Eddies in the 70th minute Raudales' challenge on Cesar Elizondo was deemed reckless and he was given a straight red card reducing FC Edmonton to nine men for the rest of the match.

San Antonio took advantage of their men advantage and scored twice more in the 82nd and 90th minute to hand the Eddies a 3-0 loss.

"I'm still proud of my players," said Miller after the match. "We knew we had a tough game ahead of us and unfortunately it didn't work in our favour."

FC Edmonton now head back to Edmonton for the week before flying out to Indianapolis to take on the Indy Eleven next Saturday, September 13 (5:30 p.m. MT KO). Fans can join FC Edmonton at the Pint Downtown for the Eddies official viewing party.
