Eddies Look to Put Together Unbeaten Streak

July 3, 2012 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
FC Edmonton News Release

San Antonio, TX. (July 3, 2012) - On Wednesday, the Eddies will play their 14th game of the season when they take on the San Antonio Scorpions (K.O. @ 6:30 p.m. MDT), marking the midway point of the season.

FCE is coming off a hard-fought 0-0 draw against the second place Puerto Rico Islanders on Sunday, a game that the coaching staff felt that the team was unlucky not to get all three points from.

Now the team hopes to carry that momentum into a game against the first place Scorpions at Heroes Stadium.

Thirteen points separate the two teams in the standings so it will be a stiff test for the Eddies if they hope to continue to earn points, and the task will be made even more difficult thanks to suspensions to midfielder Ilja van Leerdam (five yellows) and defender Kévin Hatchi (red card), both of whom made the trip and will be available in Puerto Rico on Saturday.

The Eddies currently sit five points out of the sixth and final playoff spot and general manager Tom Leip sees this two-game trip as a potentially pivotal part of the season.

"We play three games against the first and second place teams in less than a week, two of which are on the road in San Antonio and San Juan," Leip said. "We already earned an important point against the Islanders (on Sunday), now if we can get a couple wins on the road, we'll be sitting much better in the standings at the midway point. It will be tough but our guys are up for the challenge."
