Orange County Breakers News Release
NEWARK, NJ - August 23, 2007 - Right-handed starter Harold Eckert (3-0) struck out 10 as he scattered four hits and allowed no runs to lead the Newark Bears to a 2-1 victory over the York Revolution on Thursday evening at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium. The win snapped the Bears four game losing streak and improved their second-half record to 20-19.
The Bears jumped on the board in the bottom of the second on designated hitter Joey Gomes' ninth home run of the season. The lead was extended in the fourth on an RBI double to right-center by third baseman Corey Smith that plated centerfielder Keith Reed. Reed finished the night 2-for-4 with the run scored.
The Revolution cut the lead to 2-1 in the top half of the eighth. Left-fielder Kaz Tanaka led off with a walk and advanced to third on a single by third baseman Keoni De Renne.
