Published on July 3, 2002 under ECHL (ECHL) News Release

PRINCETON, N.J. - The East Coast Hockey League mourns the loss of E.A. "Bud" Gingher, who passed away at age 65 on Monday from an apparent heart attack in his hometown of Peoria, Ill. Gingher served as the Chairman of the ECHL Board of Governors from 1992-95.

"Bud was a significant factor in the success and growth of the East Coast Hockey League, and provided strong leadership during his tenure as Chairman of the Board of Governors," said Richard W. Adams, President/CEO of the ECHL. "The league sends its condolences to the Gingher family."

Gingher co-founded the Dayton Bombers in 1991 and owned the team for seven seasons, serving as president and governor until selling the team in 1998. A member of the Dayton Hockey Hall of Fame, Gingher was on the board of directors for Peoria of the International Hockey League for three years in the mid-80's, including 1985 when the Rivermen won the Turner Cup Championship under the guidance of coach and general manager Patrick J. Kelly. The ECHL postseason championship trophy is named in honor of Kelly, a founding father of the league and its Commissioner Emeritus.

Gingher's son Ed is in his fifth year with the Bombers and his third as general manager.
