ECHL Approves New Membership In Dayton

PRINCETON, N.J. - The East Coast Hockey League announced on Friday that the Board of Governors has approved an expansion membership in Dayton, Ohio. Effective for the 2002-03 season, the new membership has been granted to Melrose Capital, LLC, a group comprised of local Dayton businesspeople.

The ECHL also announced that the membership of the former ownership in Dayton was revoked by action of the Board of Governors for failure to comply with the League Bylaws.

The League stressed the importance of the new owners' commitment to improving relations with fans and creditors of the Dayton Bombers.

The ECHL opens its 15th Anniversary Season on October 11 with 27 teams in 14 states, including the newest market in Lexington, Kentucky. The 72-game regular season concludes on March 31 followed by the Kelly Cup Playoffs.

In 2003-04, the ECHL will welcome new members in Anchorage, Alaska; Bakersfield, California; Boise, Idaho; Fresno, California; Gwinnett County, Georgia; Las Vegas, Nevada; Long Beach, California; San Diego, California and Beaumont, Texas. The ECHL also has teams in Jacksonville, Florida; New Orleans, Louisiana; Ontario, California; and Reno, Nevada giving it a national presence with 40 teams in 19 states.
