Eastern League Announces 2005 Schedule

Published on October 22, 2004 under Eastern League (EL1) News Release

PORTLAND, ME – Eastern League President Joe McEacharn and the member clubs of the Eastern League are pleased to announce the schedule for the 2005 Eastern League season. The divisional alignment for both the Northern Division and Southern Division will be continued for the 2005 season and the format for the Eastern League playoffs will also remain unchanged. The only significant change for the 2005 season is the format of the schedule. The format for the Eastern League schedule has been changed from a schedule with an unbalanced fixed format for each Eastern League club to an unbalanced that has no fixed format.

The 2005 schedule represents a change from the format used in the recent past by the Eastern League. Gone is the unbalanced format whereby each club played each team within their own division twenty times, for a total of one hundred games, and played those clubs outside their division the remaining forty two. In place for the upcoming season is an unbalanced schedule with no fixed format, but instead is one that can best be described as a geographically based approach.

"The change represents an attempt to best meet the needs of EL franchises, our MLB affiliates, the fans and the on-field personnel. We remain committed to continually addressing the various changing needs of all parties within the baseball industry," said Eastern League President Joe McEacharn. "We are optimistic that this new approach will give fans a greater opportunity to see a greater selection of traditional rivalries, while simultaneously improving travel and playing conditions for the next generation of Major League players."

The 12 Major League organizations with affiliates in the Eastern League were involved in the decision to implement the changes and did grant final approval to the 2005 schedule. All questions regarding the league wide schedule should be addressed to the Eastern League or by contacting each individual club regarding their own individual schedule.
