Hershey Bears News Release

The HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club split a pair of games this past weekend with the Providence Bruins to open the 2009 Eastern Conference Finals. Providence claimed Game 1 with a narrow 3-2 win, but the BEARS earned a 2-1 victory in Game 2 to even the best-of- seven series. The BEARS are now 7-1 this postseason when playing at home.

The series now shifts to Rhode Island for Games 3, 4 and 5 this Friday, Sunday and Monday at Dunkin Donuts Center in downtown Providence. Should a Game 6 and 7 be needed, they would be played at GIANT Center next Wednesday and Thursday. For ticket information for potential upcoming HERSHEY home games, call the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911.

Providence and the postseason: The BEARS and Bruins had never met in Calder Cup playoff action before Saturday's Game 1 at GIANT Center. HERSHEY however faced the Providence Reds on numerous occasions in postseason action, most recently in the 1974 Calder Cup Finals. The BEARS and Bruins split two regular season games in 2008-09, with each team winning its game on home ice.

Back in familiar territory: The BEARS are playing in the Eastern Conference Finals for the third time in the last four seasons. HERSHEY won the 2006 Calder Cup and advanced to the 2007 Calder Cup Finals prior to this year's trip to the American Hockey League's third round.

Western Conference Finals: The Manitoba Moose start the week just two victories short of Final after back-to-back wins over the Houston Aeros this past Friday and Saturday. Manitoba scored the first five goals of the game Saturday en route to a 5-2 win in Game 2 at MTS Centre in downtown Winnipeg. The two teams meet Monday night in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals at Toyota Center. The winner of the Manitoba/Houston series will face the winner of the HERSHEY/Providence series in the 2009 Calder Cup Finals.

Washington update: The Capitals were eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs this past week, falling to the Pittsburgh Penguins in seven games in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals.

South Carolina update: The Stingrays begin the 2009 Kelly Cup Finals Friday night in Alaska against the Aces. South Carolina is HERSHEY'S ECHL affiliate.
