East Kentucky Miners News Release
PIKEVILLE, KY. - The East Kentucky Miners professional basketball organization is continuing its longstanding commitment to the community. The Miners organization teamed up with UNITE Pike on Saturday, Jan. 3, hosting the inaugural Shoot 3 to be Drug Free Clinic at the Pikeville Area Family YMCA. The clinic featured instruction from East Kentucky Miners player and head coach Kevin Keathley. Former University of Kentucky standout Wayne Turner, starting point guard for the Miners, talked with the young basketball players in attendance about the importance of remaining drug-free. Clinic participants received an invaluable amount of instruction from Miners players and the team's head coach during the free clinic.
"We're happy with the turnout we had for the Shoot 3 to be Drug Free Clinic," said East Kentucky Coach Kevin Keathley. "The kids who participated were very attentive and listened throughout the event. The team did a good job of teaching. We want to send a positive drug-free message to the youth of Eastern Kentucky. This is the first of many positive partnerships between the East Kentucky Miners organization and UNITE Pike."
East Kentucky is undefeated and nearing its CBA opener. The East Kentucky Miners are 8-0 in the 2008-09 season after defeating five different ABA opponents as part of the historic Interleague Challenge.
